Maryanna Sokol CD Release Show

24 May 2010

The show will be streaming live here on Sunday evening:

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/maryanna-sokol-hometown-record-release-party

Maryanna Sokol will be having her CD release at Dean’s Credit Clothing downtown joined by a full band for the first time in Texas!! Since she now lives in New York, this may be your only chance to see her live. Kennedy Bakery will start things off at 7:30PM followed by Marry Me, and finally Maryanna Sokol.

Maryanna’s new album “Landfill” is out now and can be purchased here. The album was produced by Andrew Futral (The Age of Rockets) and is sure to be a success once the word gets out.

We know you have the next day off for Memorial Day, so come out and stay late!! $5 cover

Call me butter, cause I’m on a roll!

9 May 2010

Sorry, I couldn’t resist…but things really are rolling. We have three shows coming up. On May 30th we’ll be opening for Maryanna Sokol, who will be gracing Houston with her presence in order to celebrate the release of her new album. Then, on June 10, we’ll be playing with the Invincible Czars Trio at Avant Garden. On July 16, we’ll be back at Rudyards (other acts t/b/a).

Also, we’ve been hard at work on our EP. Justine and I worked with our good friend Josh Applebee at SugarHill last week to lay down piano tracks. I think Justine enjoyed the badass grand piano, and I know I enjoyed passing out on the world’s most amazing couch while waiting.

As always, check the calendar for more info. See you soon!

Happy Record Store Day!

17 April 2010

Erin and I were in Fort Worth for the weekend and I thought I’d be missing out on the third annual Record Store Day, but then I just happened to drive past Doc’s Records And Vintage, so I got to participate after all. We also stopped at Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie on the way home. If you’re in Houston on Saturday, check out Cactus Records where our friend (and drummer on some of the songs on our upcoming EP) Freddie Steady Krc will be playing.

Most of us have gotten used to an age of unsexy gigabytes of files on hard drives and we’ve all listened to songs stolen from the internet with terrible file compression. Sorting through bins of used CDs, watching an LP spin, and having to be more selective when your hard earned cash isn’t able to go as far on a new album, does make the recorded music experience something a bit more special than the norm of the last 10 years. There’s really something to say for a physical medium and I’d suggest taking a step back and letting it supplement your iPod on occasion.

Spring Updates

9 April 2010

Even though we didn’t play any gigs, March was a really busy and productive month for us – we spent two weekends in Austin in the studio, and I spent an additional weekend in Austin at SXSW for work. When I wasn’t in Austin, I was busy having every illness known to man, one after the other (it all started with the Erin-gitis back in February). Things have calmed down, and I’m working on setting up more shows. Our next scheduled performance will be on June 10th with my friends the Invincible Czars. We’re really excited about teaming up with the Czars, and I’ll give you more info in a future post.

In other news, our EP is almost complete. Justine and I are going to work with our friend Josh Applebee at Sugar Hill to add piano, and then James and I will be making one more trip back to Mark Younger-Smith’s studio in Austin to finish the vocals and electric guitar on a couple of the tracks. We don’t have an exact release date yet, but it will be this summer.

More info soon!

Menil Community Art Festival

3 March 2010

We don’t have any dates solidified for upcoming shows (although a couple are in the works), but in the meantime, James and I will be playing an acoustic set at the Menil Community Arts Festival on March 13. The festival itself runs from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. We don’t have a set time to play, but most likely we will perform on the Menil Bookstore deck following the Inprint reading at noon. We’ll be playing acoustic versions of Kennedy Bakery songs, as well as some covers. The festival is free, and St. Arnolds is one of the sponsors, so you can’t really go wrong.

This weekend we’re heading back to the studio…more news on that to follow.

See you soon,

erin

Tonight!

25 February 2010

We’ve been excited about tonight for a while now, and it’s finally here. I had a nasty case of laryngitis last weekend (or “eringitis,” depending on who you ask), but I no longer have to communicate via notepad, and I’m ready to sing again. We hope to see everyone at Rudyard’s. Christian Staehely kicks things off at 10:00, followed by Bright Men of Learning, then us.

See you tonight!

Rudyards – Feb. 25

14 February 2010

Hey everyone! I just wanted to officially announce our upcoming show at Rudyard’s, now that I have all the details. Christian Staehely is up first, so if you missed his show Friday at Avant Garden, you have another chance to see him before baseball season starts and he leaves us for Washington again. We will also be joined by Bright Men of Learning, a Houston rock band led by my friend, Marshall Preddy. We’re last, but you should stick around because we’ll be debuting two new songs, which are pretty great, if I do say so myself.

Everything starts at 10:00, and there is a $6 cover. Rudyard’s is my favorite bar in Houston, and if you haven’t been, please be advised that they have many delicious fried items for your enjoyment (and some other non-fried items that are probably also delicious, but I wouldn’t know).

Final Show of 2009…First Show of 2010

16 December 2009

Hey everyone! We hope you’ll join us at Mangos on Sunday, December 27th for our last show this year. We’ll be playing with Sydney Harkreader, who joined us for our show at Brasil last month.  Don’t forget that Mango’s has great vegetarian food, also (especially the tamales) so come get some food and hang out with us.

Speaking of Brasil, we’ll be back there again on Friday, January 22nd. This time we’ll be joined by Christian Staehely, songwriter and baseball player extraordinaire.

As always, check the calendar for more details. See you soon!

Update

2 December 2009

Playing three shows in one week (on top of Thanksgiving and our day jobs) was exhausting but fabulous. We’ll be taking a couple weeks off to practice new songs and prepare for the holidays, but we already have plans brewing for the future. For those of you who missed our Friday show at Brasil, we’ll be playing there again in January (more details tba).

We would like to thank  Sydney Harkreader for playing with us at Brasil (and also for helping us out when we realized some of our equipment was in the trunk of my car…which was in the shop. Oops…). You can check Sydney out on myspace at www.myspace.com/sydneyharkreader.
